Taiwan’s three-in-one mega electronics fair kicked off Oct. 11 in Taipei, attracting 10,000 visitors and close to 2,000 foreign buyers on opening day—an increase of 6 percent from a similar event last year.
Organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA), the four-day event combines the Taipei International Electronics, Taiwan International RFID Applications and Broadband Taiwan shows.
“The exhibition is expected to become a mega sourcing platform and create tremendous business opportunities for Taiwan’s information and communication technology sector,” said Wayne W. Wu, deputy chairman of TAITRA.
According to Wu, 800 local and foreign firms have set up 1,600 booths at the event. “This significant presence is expected to result in 70,000 visits during the course of the event,” he said.
Staged at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall, the fair is divided into eight display areas featuring such themes as cloud computing, light-emitting diode, or LED, energy saving and carbon reduction, digital televisions and made-in-Taiwan white goods.
Wu said TAITRA has also organized for 68 heavyweight buyers from Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the Ukraine and U.S. to participate in 560 one-on-one sessions with exhibitors. These firms, which boast annual sales exceeding US$50 million, include Future Electronics Inc., Hosho Corp., Ingram Micro Inc., Intermec Technologies Corp., Leon Heimer S.A. and Telamon Corp.
The latest TEEMA data shows that Taiwan’s electronics and electrical market output hit US$177.3 billion in 2009, with exports accounting for US$99.3 billion, or 49 percent of the nation’s total. (JSM)
